Rev. James H. Robinson

Reverend James H. Robinson - 409

Most of us have heard of the Peace Corps, but few of us know the man whose vision is responsible for that organization’s development. The Reverend James H. Robinson, political activist, was inspired by his deep humanity to found Operations Crossroads Africa (OCA) in 1958 to provide African nations with engineers, doctors, and other needed professionals to help the entire continent develop a capacity for self-determination. The Kennedy Administration, in recognition of Robinson’s leadership of OCA, sought his counsel in developing the Peace Corps in 1961. A graduate of Union Theological Seminary, Reverend Robinson was pastor of Harlem’s Church of the Master for two decades.
